Local SLO County Food Favs

Here are some of my favorite spots in San Luis Obispo County — enjoy!

Cubanissimo food truck — Thanks to Arqui and Chrystal Trenado, the flavors of his native Cuba have come rolling into San Luis Obispo County, and will soon open a restaurant in Orcutt — here’s a recent article.

In Arroyo Grande …

Comfort Market — from-scratch comfort food, great beer and wine options.

Ember – Wood fired, farm fresh, top notch; perfect for special occasion or stellar weeknight dinner.

In Atascadero …

Bristols Cider House – Started by Brits from Bristol, authentic not-too-sweet ciders on tap and in the bottle.

Joebella Roastery & Cafe — my daily fix!

Marston’s 101 — from-scratch pub grub plus craft drafts, full bar, and bottomless mimosa Sunday brunch — here’s a recent article.

In Avila Beach ...

Gardens of Avila at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort — farm-fresh ingredients in scenic setting.

Ocean Grill — great view, farm fresh ingredients, specialities are seafood and wood-fired pizzas.

In Baywood Park …

Nardonne’s Pizzeria — Sicilian style pizza, craft drafts, family-owned & –operated — here’s a recent article. (Also in Atascadero)

Noi’s Thai Takeout — this tiny spot often sells out, and with good reason!

In Cambria …

Allocco’s Italian Bakery — authentic, old-fashioned Italian baked goods.

Linn’s –family-run farm & restaurant with twists on home-style comfort food.

In Cayucos …

Lunada Garden Bistro — delightful family-run restaurant, great food and beautiful garden areas.

In Grover Beach …

Spoon Trade — a must destination, true farm-to-table cuisine with upscale and comfort food creations.

In Los Osos …

Nichol’s Pizza — Great pizza crust! Family-owned and -operated. Good beers on tap.

In Morro Bay …

Bayside Cafe — a local favorite on the marina for 30 years, great views, great from scratch food (including desserts).

Flavor Factory — hand-ground burgers, from scratch soups, great desserts, craft drafts.

Frankie & Lola’s — whimsical approach to down-to-earth food made from scratch.

House of JuJu — Burgers by the bay, grilled fish tacos, flatbtreads, craft beers and NO fryer!

Libertine Pub — eclectic rotating tap selection with a pub menu.

Wee Shack — fresh old-school burgers and hand-cut fries.

In Paso Robles …

Artisan — farm-to-table supporter of local producers.

Blue Moon Southwestern Grill — wonderful from-scratch sauces (for dishes) and salsas (for chips … and dishes).

Fish Gaucho — great agave/mescal selection, good food, very reasonable happy hour.

Mistura — authentic Peruvian fare!

Next Door Bistro — a tiny, tiny, tiny nook of delicious near downtown — here’s a recent article.

The Grill at Hunter Ranch Golf Course – great views and buffet spread with killer bacon.

Thomas Hill Organics — creative approach to farm-to-table — also in San Luis Obispo.

In Pismo Beach …

Chipwrecked — gourmet potato chips … yes, gourmet potato chips .. you’re welcome.

Sea Venture Hotel — Grab a seat by the window and enjoy Chef Casey’s farm-to-table menu.

In San Luis Obispo …

Apple Farm — Yes, the decor is a bit country kitschy, but the food is farm fresh and a combo of comfort food/wine country cuisine; and if you love from scratch desserts …

Beda’s Biergarten – Authentic German fare and beers in fun atmosphere.

Big Sky Café — market-fresh fare with an eclectic, international approach.

Bon Temps Creole Café — some of the best Cajun/Creole this side of the Mississippi — here’s a recent article.

Del Monte Café — Comfort food in a old house in SLO, family-owned and -operated.

Flour House — spot-on authentic pizza Napolitano and housemade pastas.

G Brothers — authentic BBQ and Mexican from a casual family-owned spot.

Lincoln Market & Deli — neighborhood spot with a vintage vibe.

Lotus Asia’s Best — authentic Vietnamese w/ spot-on Bahn Mi and Pho.

Luna Red — stylish downtown restaurant serving global tapas.

Mee Heng Low Noodle House — casual noodle house in historic Chinatown.

Novo Restaurant & Lounge — great setting by the creek downtown and fun, eclectic menu.

Oasis — spot-on Moroccan.

Ribline — two locations in SLO, one in Grover Beach — the name says it all!

Slo Provisions — rotisserie chicken, from scratch deli salads and daily specials, beer & wine, Southern hospitality.

Thomas Hill Organics — creative approach to farm-to-table — also in Paso Robles.

In Santa Margarita …

Southern Station — Southern-inspired breakfast and lunch, good beer on tap, family-owned and -operated (related to Del Monte Cafe in SLO)

The Range — no website, no reservations, no credit cards, just spot-on hearty food with a classic approach.

In Templeton …

BarrelHouse Brewing Company — “A small batch barley & hop project – liberty & justice for ale” — great indoor/outdoor space.

Fig Good Food At Courtney’s House — local ingredients made yummy, doing great work for challenged people — here’s a recent article.

Kitchenette — a fast-casual breakfast & lunch spot with a commitment to local and from-scratch fare.

Martin’s on Main — throwback burger joint.

Pier 46 Seafood Market — great fresh fish market, plus small cafe.
